A light air ship accepted to convey authorities from EU outskirt office Frontex slammed not long after take-off from Malta on Monday, killing no less than five individuals, air terminal sources and witnesses said.
The crash, Malta's most noticeably awful peacetime flying machine mischance, happened at around 0530 GMT, as the plane was setting out toward Misrata in Libya, said authorities.
Rescuers were searching for survivors. The plane, a twin-prop Metroliner, can bear 10 individuals.
The Seasons of Malta said the plane had been rented from Luxembourg for use by Frontex authorities. There was no prompt news on the nationality of the casualties.
